An inspiration board I whipped up really quickly right before my trip to California (which makes me guilty of not being able to give credit to anyone for the pics- please, please, please let me know if these are yours and I will update the photo credit asap!). I was asking my cousin, Katrina to be my Maid-of-Honor while I was there (she lives there) and I wanted to show her the color scheme I was shooting for. I think I might go for a champagne color for our mothers’ dresses, but I’m still having an internal battle with myself (they are the worse!) on which color I like more for a bridesmaid dress, “oasis” blue or terracotta?
Any suggestions?

Why didn’t I think of this!? I just had to share this cool story…An OC bride barters for her wedding on Craigslist! Genius. Well Kerry Coryell does have a far more interesting story than I do. She’s been postponing her wedding for almost 10 years taking care of her paralyzed mother who eventually passed away. Since then life has happened (as it does to all of us) and so Kerry has been waiting for her “dream” wedding to come true. So after pursuing some Cabo wedding pictures a friend sent her, she decided to quit waiting around and turn her dream into reality. Not having much money, she placed an add offering services to house clean, babysit, cut the grass, etc. for the service of wedding vendors. She’s seen amazing generosity come alive with many vendors contacting her within days of her post and offering her free service! Kerry is now on her way to having her dream wedding happen. It’s good to know there really are good people still out there in this crazy world! Read the rest of her story here….

Through all this wedding planning, I’ve been pursing other wedding blogs (of course!) for inspiration. I’ve come across quite a few who have featured vintage engagement photo sessions and I’ve fallen in love! When I suggested we do a modern-vintage shoot for our engagement photos to Mr. Oceanside, he agreed! I expected he’d go along with it because sometimes I think he’s a 29 year old guy with an old soul. His music and clothing style sometimes comes from the 60′s and 70′s era. I think once my family sees these pics they’ll be surprised that I was actually the first one interested in doing a shoot like this! Ha ha! Some recent inspiration came from a shoot that Vintage Glam Weddings featured on her site. Couple Jules & Joe went all out for their shoot (see pics above) and I’m hoping we can incorporate some similar shots into our session! You can check out more from their session on Jen Stewart Photography’s blog here. I’m also getting some inspiration from several posts that Green Wedding Shoes featured on her blog too! We’re taking our pictures this coming weekend and I can’t wait (although I am kind of nervous)!
Where did you take your engagement photos and/or did you use a theme?
Sooo our #1 pick for now is Avia Hotel in Long Beach. Mr. Oceanside felt like the decor, layout, and price was right. He really likes V2o (our #2) but says he can picture his grandma being more comfortable here. We’ll I love his grandmother and I think he’s right…for all of our grandparents sake, this venue probably feels more “wedding” like than some of the others we toured. This venue will still give me my “modern” feel and since it promotes itself as a “boutique-chic” hotel. I still think I can funk out the rooms so their less “traditional” by using long tables and do family-style seating rather than the traditional rounds. The outdoor terrace and banquet room (known as the Gallery) will also have lounge seating which will reflect the modern look also. The pool deck view is amazing (you can see all of the Long Beach harbor) and so are the guest rooms. I’m still on the edge on this place only because there are still LOTS of unknowns since it actually doesn’t open until August 1st. We were actually the very first “wedding tour” they’ve done…feeling kind of special! They are still creating their catering menu and wedding packages and we should hear from them next week. But I will admit I think I love it even more now just because Mr. Oceanside put in his 2 cents! I’m not cutting off any of my other options until I get their proposal which I should have by the end of next week! Cant’ wait! Here are some pics we took while they were still setting things up…
