Was in the mood to share some beach themed escort cards with you all this lovely Wednesday! Typically your escort cards will go hand in hand with your general wedding decor or theme of course so if you’re going for a beach themed wedding or just have a love for the ocean, here’s a collection of a few pretty little escort ideas. Simple, but statement worthy.
Collect starfish or sand dollars and add name tags to them to help your guests find their seat. Or you may want to write their names directly on them to add a special touch and have them double up as favors. For the budget conscious bride, just head to the beach to collect a few pretty rocks or different colored seashells and again either write your guests’ names directly on them or add a small escort card to them.
One of my favs? The message in a bottle- so cute!

I love when special dates fall on Monday because then I don’t feel so bad about posting personal stuff for my “Mel’s Monday” feature. Guess that’s the point of my Monday posts, and well I suppose it’s okay too because this is my blog right? Haha!
Anyway- I’ve been on a birthday kick lately, or birthday cake kick lately which thanks to Steph’s birthday last week, it gave me the excuse to celebrate with a confetti cake cupcake, topped with confetti cake flavored frosting from our local cupcakery shop, Sakara Sweets! Oh and it was double stamp day last Thursday so I totally scored.
Anywho- today I continue to celebrate birthdays. And this one is special because my younger twin sisters, Holly & Stacy are celebrating a quarter century today!
25 years ago we got the call at my great grandma’s house that my mom not only gave birth to one baby, but TWO! My other sister Lydia and I were 4 and 5 at the time so you can imagine how excited we were to know we’d EACH have a baby to call our own- lol. Stacy became “my twin” and Holly became “Lydia’s twin” but both were loved and fought over equally for big sister time.
We had a blast dressing them up, painting their faces, and dancing around the house to mom’s Gloria Estefan and Whitney Houston music video tapes. They had a blast torturing Lydia and I with the movie, The Little Mermaid, watched and sung by the little ones themselves on a daily basis. I swear we watched the Little Mermaid for like a whole 365 days straight once- (okay or maybe it just felt like we did).
p.s. Go Girl Scouts (and Brownies too)! That’s me with the big bush piled on top of my head. They used to call me Medusa. Lol! =(

Okay and yeah, we did clean up pretty nicely too:

They are all grown up now, one married, the other engaged. One just bought a house, the other twin just moved out of state. Very different personalities but each has the most nurturing, kindhearted spirit. They are always willing to love, to care for, and help someone out. Think that comes from our mama. =)
I don’t know what I would do without these two- or three (Lydia just celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago too- last year in her 20′s!!). Our lives will change and so will our last names, but our sisterhood bond is forever.
Wishing my beautiful sisters, Stacy & Holly, aka “the little ones”, aka “Twin A and Twin B”, aka “Thing 1 and Thing 2″, a VERY, VERY happy 25th birthday!
{And if you’re reading: May God guide you and bless you with love and happiness and many more years ahead! Love you both with all my heart and soul! Love, your big sis, “Meesa”}

And on a wedding update note- I am hoping to get my full gallery pics later this week so crossing my fingers I will get to do a major recap of my wedding festivities very, very soon! It already feels like it was forever ago but it’s only been like 6 weeks. Haha! I know I must have patience.
Have a great Monday and great week everyone!

Mel
So related to our discussion yesterday about cake design, I have a Reader Spotlight to share with you all today!
Sometimes when I feel like no one is reading my blog or I wonder whether or not I am really “inspiring” anyone with the content I share, a little star shines down on me, reminding me to push on and to continue forth on this sail- regardless of whether or not I’m getting “immediate” feedback from readers.
These “stars” shining down are the very readers of The Oceanside Bride. It is often all YOU brides out there that help me continue on this journey. It might have been the smallest detail you found here or the dream oceanside venue or destination wedding location you never thought of. But of course I only find out these things when I hear from you!
So you know I was TOO excited to get an email from reader, Gaby who after seeing my attempt at painting my very own wooden wedding cake toppers, she was inspired to try her own!
From Gaby: So, after gathering the confidence to do my caketoppers thanks to you, I think they came out pretty awesome! :) Check them out. Once again, thank you soooo much for your inspiraiton, our wedding toppers were a hit!

Okay seriously- aren’t those headphones the BEST?! Gaby’s husband is a musician so it was important for her to incorporate his love for music. I absolutely love all the fine details Gaby added to them with the dress, the suit, the hair, the facial expressions, the shoes, and of course those freakin’ awesome headphones!
Gaby I’m so glad you shared your DIY cake topper masterpieces with us! I know by you sharing these, you’ll be inspiring the next bride out there to give it a try!
Don’t question your creative talents ladies. Believe in them and give it a go!
Got something to share? I’d love to feature a project you DIY’d after being inspired by the blogsphere- so share on!

On another notes I just couldn’t pass the opportunity to give a birthday shout out ALL the way across the world to the one and only Steph from Bubblerock Studios! Although it is still Thursday, September 15th here in the US (10:45AM as I write this), it is already morning (2:45AM to be exact) and Friday, September 16th in New Zealand where Steph lives so it IS her BIRTHDAY! She is seriously one of the sweetest, caring, most passionate {and TALENTED} people around. She has the most genuine heart and it’s super easy to get drawn in by her presence. She’s become a good friend {yes, even over thousands of miles of ocean} and I just want to wish her a very happy birthday!
Have a great birthday weekend Steph!! I KNOW this year will bring you lots of love, happiness, and success!
Psst…and have some cake for me!!

Today is all about beach wedding cake designs! And I’ll have to tell you it’s mainly due to the fact I’ve been feeling a little cakey lately. I mean, seriously craving me some cake! Not necessarily wedding cake, but “birthday cake”. You know, regular vanilla cake with butter cream frosting and sprinkles. I’m usually a chocolate fiend, but I’m not feeling chocolate cake right now. Give me vanilla!
So I don’t know if today’s post will make my cravings worse or satisfy it. Let’s hope it’s the latter. Moving on…
There are a million and one options for you when it comes to picking a cake. Deciding on whether to choose a square or a round, vanilla, red velvet, or chocolate, fondant or butter cream, cake or cupcakes can make your head spin. But remember to just think about your colors, theme (if you have one), or just your overall personality and that might help you narrow it down. If your going for a “beach theme” or have a love for the ocean- why not incorporate seashells, starfish and tropical colors? I personally love the beach chair cake topper below!

Or maybe although you’re getting married near the water, you’d still rather incorporate your own theme. That’s cool too. I also hear a lot of girls say they want to incorporate the beach or give a nod to their their destination wedding location somehow but don’t necessarily want to go overboard. I was like that so I get it. You can still incorporate your love for the sea or your love for travel (regardless of whether or not you’re doing a destination wedding), or celebrate your love with a simple wedding cake design by using fun props or cake toppers!

Whatever cake design or cake toppers you choose to add, remember to make it yours. You want to choose something that reflects your personality as a couple!
Pssst. And check back tomorrow to see how one of our very own Oceanside Bride’s incorporated her and her hubby’s personality into their DIY cake topper! It’s super cute so you don’t want to miss it!
By the way- how did you incorporate your wedding theme, colors, or personality into your cake design?
