So I’m so excited to finally be able to post our save the dates since 90% of guests received them already. The other 10% are Mr. Oceanside’s guy friends whom I am still waiting on the addresses for and also not worried about them being readers of my blog so won’t disappoint anyone by posting them here.

The inspiration came from a similar project I saw done professionally but unfortunately was way out of budget.  So I  undertook the task of creating our save the dates myself.  Our save the date was similar to a newspaper announcement telling our guests a short story about how and where we got engaged, leading to our wedding location and wedding website information.

I created the file in PowerPoint and ordered the grey cardstock paper and vellum envelopes from Paper and More.

I loved the look of vellum envelopes that I’ve seen a few other blogging brides use and knew I had to use them as well.

I positioned the address label on the outside of the envelope and card inside the envelope just perfect so the words “Save the Date” would be shown through the envelope.

From the back of the envelope you could see our picture and the wedding date through the vellum.

I also downloaded the Quentincaps, Veteran Typewriter, and OldNewspaper Type fonts from Dafont.com for free and used them throughout the various parts of our save the date.

I voted against ordering the custom stamps with our picture again due to budget and went with good old USPS’s King and Queen of Hearts Love stamps at regular postage prices.  I was really excited I actually chose to go this route because I think they added the perfect touch to our envelopes!

I was really excited about the end result up until I mailed them out! I started having second thoughts about how they really turned out, what would people think of them, worried about whether or not I mailed them to the right addresses, etc.  I admit I had a few sleepless nights, but Mark assured me they were great and that HE loved them. That of course made me feel better because ultimately WE are the only ones who needed to be happy with the way they turned out and we were.  I’m just a perfectionist and a worrier!  I started getting responses from those who received them and of course everyone thought they were so cute and creative!

Soon I’ll start working on our DIY wedding invitations and can’t wait to challenge myself again and see how they turn out!

I love more modern save the date and wedding invitations.  The paper and envelopes for my own save the dates should be arriving today so guess what I’ll be working on this weekend??  I can’t wait!  Almost 85% of our guests will be coming from all over the country to celebrate with us so I’ve been anxious to get them out in the mail. I want to give everyone as much notice as possible to save and plan for our July wedding in California next  year.  I won’t be posting my save the dates until they are in the hands of our guests, but here is a modern-vintage save the date and rehearsal invite I found in Jamie Konet’s Etsy Shop that I love!  Check her out.

So social networking can be both good and bad depending on how “plugged in” you are all the time. I’m guilty of being obsessed with wedding blogs, Brides.com, The Knot and definitely so with Weddingbook on Facebook! OMG- I love reading about the daily planning updates, gripes and drama, celebrations, seeing pictures of DIY projects, etc. from all the girls on Weddingbook from all across the country!

Well another great thing about it is the great network of support you get from everyone. People like Paige from Red Rose Designs, started out using her creative gift and started creating monogram designs and such for Weddingbook brides and would even offer her services for free! Well talented Paige got so many requests that she was able to successfully launch her own Monogram & Save the Date design company!  Her prices are very affordable and if you read the testimonials you can tell she’s great to work !  Paige will be taking a shot at our monogram design over the weekend and I can’t wait to see it next week!  For now, take a look at some of her other creations….

boarding-pass

So as I am weeks away from looking at venues, I’m starting to get anxious about the rest of my wedding planning task list. The first thing on my mind is do we have a wedding theme or not!? I’ve thought of all the things we love to do…watch movies and actual record video at family functions or the most recent, took a road trip to DC for Obama’s Inauguration in January (where we got engaged!) and took tons of footage which we just finished editing and created our own documentary. We enjoy traveling, the beach, spoiling our Boston Terrier, and hanging out with friends and family. I’ve thought about doing a “movie” theme, but the favors, invitations, and decorations I’ve seen online are not for me.  Then there is our “wine” theme since we’ll  be in California.  And then of course travel comes to mind which I think we might be able to pull off.  While my mind wandered aimlessly today about all the possibilities, I came across this save-the-date idea.  Doesn’t sound all that “new”, but it’s new to me so thought I would share in case you haven’t seen them.  It’s a boarding pass save-the-date! Very appropropriate for a destination wedding right!?  Its very cute and can also be used as a less formal wedding invitation too!  I’m all about DIY projects and what-do-you-know…they have a template already out there for these puppies! I found Aylee Bits’s template of boarding pass Save-the-Dates by way of  iDIY Blog!  I know I’ll be frequenting iDIY on a daily basis for inspiration from now on! Still undecided if “travel” will be our theme, but its definitely looking more like one of our better options!
