Katie and Justin’s Lighthouse Destination Wedding

I love this adorable lighthouse destination wedding from the great Kim Chapman! I’ve actually had the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse on my venue radar for quite sometime but unfortunately haven’t had the time to do much research on it.  I saw it briefly online before and it looked like such a perfect US destination wedding location.  Then voilà, it falls into my lap! So big thanks to Kim for that one! =)

Our oceanside bride Katie was a warrior taking on planning a wedding from a distance and incorporating many DIY elements into their wedding, including homemade caramel popcorn, a family trademark! Sounds (and looks) yummy!

From the beautiful bride: I am from Old Town, ME and Justin is from Windsor, CT.  We met at work at the YMCA in Sanford, ME where Justin and I started our professional careers.  I was the Aquatics Director and Justin was the Childcare Director.  We were instant friends, and it wasn’t long before we started dating.  Many of our first dates together were at Wells Beach, and we’ve been drawn to the sea side ever since! Justin proposed to me on Easter in 2009.  He hid the engagement ring in an easter egg!

Justin and I searched New England for our perfect location.  From Maine to Southern Connecticut, we were looking for the perfect balance scenery and rustic charm!  The second we found the 1812 Farm we knew that was the spot for us.  When we went to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse for the first time, it was the icing on the cake!

Every element of paper was hand cut, printed, and assembled! I purchased all of the paper from cardsandpockets.com.  I designed the save the dates, invitations, menu cards, and place cards with the help of my mother.  Our favors were boxes of homemade caramel popcorn, a family trademark.  We also made sure our guests were comfortable with welcome bags at their hotels and cottages at the Sheepscot Village Inn in Edgecomb, Maine.

What challenges (if any) did you face while planning your destination wedding?

The hardest part was just being far away! We planned a few trips to our destination ahead of time for our cake tasting, menu tasting, and to meet our officiant.  We had to put our faith into a lot of things! In fact, I did not meet the lady who did my hair and make up until that morning, and she was fantastic!

What was the best thing about having a destination wedding? Share your best wedding weekend moment!

The best part of the weekend was being with our friends and family! We rented cottages and hotel rooms at the Sheepscot Village Inn so that everyone could be close and comfortable.  The morning after the wedding my parents hosted a brunch so we could see everyone one last time before the weekend was through!

What is your best advice for other couples considering a destination wedding?

Stay calm and relaxed! You have to really put your faith in a lot of things.  Everything will work out, and if it doesn’t, you won’t remember.

This was such a treat! Thanks Kim for sharing this lovely wedding with us and to Justin & Katie for dishing out the details of your special day!

I am fascinated by anything East Coast, and this wedding did not disappoint!

Love the classic cake, too. I love color as much as the next person, but there’s something about white/cream that just sends me over the moon!
